Monique’s career path

Monique has followed a very versatile career path. After positions in retail, a call centre and healthcare, she eventually ended up in logistics. ‘I started working at Wijlhuizen by chance. I had put my CV on indeed and I had seen this position pass by many times but always thought it was nothing for me to work in truck parts. I was then approached by Wijlhuizen to come and work there. I decided to come for an interview anyway and accept the position as a warehouse assistant. I am, now six years later, still glad I made that choice!’

Opportunities and possibilities at Wijlhuizen

‘You are free to implement your ideas at Wijlhuizen,’ says Monique. On a quiet day in 2019, Monique decided to tidy up the warehouse. ‘I always found it quite a mess in the warehouse and wanted it to be a bit more ordered. That space was given to me and I made sure that everything was placed neatly in bins or boxes tightly in the racks. Everyone was very happy with this and I was given multiple tasks and responsibilities as a result.’ Monique was given the position of warehouse manager / cooperating foreman after only a year and a half. Incidentally, she also caused a small ‘revolution’ by being the first woman to walk on the shop floor. Many more women now work in the warehouse.

‘Wijlhuizen is also always willing to cooperate when something unexpected happens. For instance, at one point I was not allowed to do any physically demanding work for a while. Then they gave me the opportunity to do temporary administrative work instead of sitting at home. So they always offer alternatives if you cannot do your own work for a while, which is very nice,’ says Monique.

Cooperation in the warehouse

Collaboration is a key concept for Monique when working in the warehouse. ‘We have a lot of different cultures and nationalities working here. Cooperation is therefore very important and fortunately it goes very well! We also work with a nice group. If you do your work well, it is of course greatly appreciated and you also get every opportunity to move up the ladder. That is why I am now where I want to be and I am happy with what I am doing now!’
